A LOT of great pictures, but NO spacial context. I really wish I knew where they were taken in relation to current streets and landmarks.

While it was briefly mentioned that several movie location shootings had been mentioned. ( Maltese Falcon and Streets of San Francisco), it should also be noted that in the classic Noir film "The Lineup" the Fairmont is also featured. The book does seem to be top heavy on scenes of Grace Cathedral.

I lived nearby in the Richmond district and USF is at the eastern edge of that district, so I passed by it hundreds of times. I did know of a few famous grads of USF like Bill Russel and 49er Ollie Matson but was unaware of other famous attendees like actor Richard Egan,former NFL commisioner Pete Rozelle and the photographer who snapped the picture of the famous WWII flag raising on Iwo Jima, Joe Rosenthal. All in all this book documents the growth and expansion of USF.

This book is not based on in-depth research. Survivors and reunions seem to have been the main sources.
