A few omissions, but in general brought back a lot of childhood memories
Grew up in SF. Went to zoo from childhood and back as adult on vacations. I thought the two omissions I noticed were no mention of Penny the elephant who was bought with children's pennies in 1954. Sadly she died recently. Also, the Koala exhibit was first seen in 1959 and a popular one of which I have still have pictures. I still have my talking storybook key "Trunkey" and associated pink tag. The mention of Jack Castor was quite brief; I saw him in the mid eighties while on a vacation back to SF. He started in 1953 at the zoo and was a world renowned consultant on raising big cats. He raised many there. At feeding time in the lion house, I wastched him take about a 10lb piece of raw meat and stuff it through the cage into a tiger's mouth. He wore hearing aids, no doubt a result of when all the big cats in the lion house started to roar in unison; the sound was so loud, my insides started to vibrate!
