Tortuga

I love this thing! I tried a lot of backpacks from REI, but none of them are as perfect as the Tortuga for travel. They say these were designed by backpackers, and it’s clear they knew what they were doing. There are pockets on the belt strap to store stuff like money or lip balm - anything you want to pull out really quick, there are two side pockets that fit a water bottle or whatever, a front pocket, and tons of compartments inside, even a spot for your laptop. I do with the laptop place was either a little bigger somehow or hand a handle. It’s a little tricky to stuff my Thule 17” case in there with all my stuff inside, but that is my biggest complaint, and it’s nothing. I don’t know why anyone would go with anything besides a Tortuga!

Have used multiple times and this is a great product. Easy to pack items for my 2wk vacation to Vail and then Vegas. No issue with using on smaller airlines where baggage size is smaller. Fits snug in overhead compartment on those flights but no issues.

Shopping was as expected: I ordered my backpack and it was sent immediately. I had some problems with the German Zoll that blocked the packet. A friend went there, had to open it and show the order receipt and bill. I ordered a big Tortuga, a rain cover and a daypack, paying ~80€ toll, which was expected but don't forget it when you order! I didn't use the backpack much yet. Right now I am in Venice with it and so far, I enjoyed it. It is quite nice to carry and huge. It was my first flight with only a carry on (and my first flight after some years) and it is much more comfortable if you don't have to check anything. Today, I used the daypack during the day, which worked well. It is amazing how much backpack you get with a thing that folds into only a small bag.

I love my Tortuga!! I was really nervous about its fit (because my torso measured just under 18") but it fits perfectly! I opened it and freaked out wondering where I was going to put all my stuff?!? After packing it a few times, I realized I have more than enough room for all my stuff(-: the material feels strong and sturdy and the zippers are awesome. The hip belts were genius and take much of the load off of my back! I am having a full test run this June spending two months in Nepal. I will post an update on the backpack itself as well as the rain cover! (Yay for monsoon season!)
