Tortuga

I used my Tortuga v2 backpack to travel across Europe, and it was everything I could have wanted from a travel bag. The front-opening compartment made packing and unpacking a breeze, while my travel companions found their top-opening hiking bags slightly frustrating. There was a slight problem with the mesh of an inner pocket of my bag, and the Tortuga team did not hesitate to send a replacement bag. All in all, I experienced fantastic customer service.

Was dubious at first, even while packing, but eventually stuffed everything required for a 7-day trip in cool weather (which meant double-layer outfits) very comfortably. Just a suggestion though: an optional daypack that can be strapped on to the normal bag would be a tremendous addition. That way it'll just be a slightly bigger bag when carried through the airport/while walking to the hotel/etc. But on the plane, the daypack can store a book, headphones, and other in-seat essentials, plus can quickly be shoved under the seat, all while the normal bag is stored in the overhead compartment.

I hesitated a long time before purchasing because I am 5 feet tall and under 100 lbs. After reading the reviews and fit specifications I was sure it wouldn't work for me. However, I decided to try it anyway because I needed the biggest backpack I could carry on a plane. I also needed my hands free to maneuver a 4 year old. It is a little big on me, but it worked exactly as I needed it to. The waist belt still provides the support I need to carry the weight. I looked at every bag out there. None have as many pockets, or convert to a hand bag (this feature is awesome). There are some international airlines whose size requirements are just under the dimensions of this bag, however, by zipping away the backpack aspect and not overpacking it I was able to conform it to their requirements. I am traveling 3 months trough Europe with a small child. I do have a very small wheeled suitcase but between the two I am able to pack enough stuff for the both of us for the whole trip. Amazing bag, so glad I purchased.

In my first use on a trip to Italy, my backpack ripped near the zipper. Customer Service offered to send a replacement to my hotel in Italy but I was not going to be staying any one place long enough to assure delivery. Then Customer Service provided guidance as to avoiding a total bag breakdown during the rest of the trip. My replacement bag was delivered to my house upon my return. Tortuga made the best of a difficult situation.
