Love the Boxes; Don't Love the Non-Jewish Items & Customer Relations
My kids absolutely love the crafts in the boxes. They are high quality and hold the interest of everyone, ages 7-14.
My only issue with the boxes themselves is that they do not exclusively contain Jewish items. The calendar is a nice idea, but including stickers for other religious holidays (even "secular" icons such as Christmas stockings or Easter eggs) feels inappropriate. If this was marketed as a multi-faith subscription or as being for interfaith families, then I would likely feel differently because I would not have the expectation of finding only Jewish materials inside. A large part of what my kids like about these boxes is that they are 100% (or were 100%) Jewish. They spend their entire lives with - at most - one small display or shelf dedicated to their religious observance. Having something that was dedicated to them as Jews filled a hole that I don't think they realized they had until the boxes started to arrive. There are plenty of other places for interfaith or non-Jewish families to find stickers/materials related to their religion. These items do not need to, nor should they be included in a JEWISH box. If Days wants to appeal to non-Jewish or interfaith families, then I feel the most appropriate way to do that is to offer such items as add-on purchases, rather than putting them in for all subscribers.
The second issue I have with Days is not related to the materials in the boxes. It's the way that you guys handled the feedback when it came up on social media. To delete comments, block followers (most of whom were probably subscribers/purchasers), and to limit comments on your posts was terrible. It sent the message that the customer's opinions don't matter unless those opinions are positive or match your own. Watching that unfold took me from recommending the boxes to everyone I know to not recommending them to anyone, and that includes the most recent Lunar New Year box, which I would have told my best friend and the mom of one of my kid's best friends (both of whom are Chinese). Not knowing if the box would contain items unrelated or "othering" to their kids, and knowing from what I observed that if it did, Days would not respond in a customer-friendly way made me decide to not mention it.
To summarize, the boxes are high quality and the activities are enjoyable for a wide range of kid ages, but the inclusion of non-Jewish religious icons and the terrible way Days handled the feedback about the icons is a real turn-off.
