Disappointed
I have no complaints concerning the order process - Bri in Utah was super nice and helpful; she answered all of my questions. Delivery service was good, packaging iffy but acceptable.
The product itself is a let down. Maybe I expect too much for $3k? The double door set looks like it was finished by two different people, or the same person on a Monday and a Friday. The decorative "clavos" on one door were evenly hammered in, the other door had several installed at odd angles. I also found a few that didn't match: most have a "hammered" look to the surface, but I found a few that were smooth. Good thing I asked for extras! The set was described as pre-hung. A reasonable person assumes that this means it was ASSEMBLED, jambs and all, pre-drilled, mortised for hinges, broken down, and shipped. Neither jamb nor the header had any evidence of being drilled. We had to square it up in the garage, drill pilots, and use the ChiComm junk screws that came with the set to pre-assemble. All screws were replaced with something of quality later.
The hinge mortises were routered poorly. The jig must be off since four of six required finish work. The outer edges of all the mortises were very shallow, leaving the low-quality hinges proud on that edge (yes, the hinges have been replaced with something better). The screws provided for the hinges are silly little things, and have been relegated to the spare screw bin. These doors are heavy, those screws aren't for these doors.
The speak-easy kits needed finish work too. None of the hinge screws were set into countersunk holes so all the heads were proud. I also had to inset the hinges into the frames since the doors rubbed badly on the opposite side of the frame. The metal bracket into which the slide latch fits was not centred on the slide, dragging badly when opening and closing. I plugged the holes, finding that one frame had been split by machine-driving the screws without a pilot (?). The assembly instructions show the inner frame, with the gaskets, on the inside. That makes zero sense. The glass needs gasketing on the OUTSIDE to prevent any possible water intrusion. It does no good having them on the inside of the frame.
The decorative "strap hinges" were installed when the finish was soft since they're now glued solidly to the door. I wanted to remove them and shift them over to align with the inside of the jamb. When the doors are closed there's a 1/2" gap between the end of the strap and the jamb, making them look even more phony. I'm making a filler piece, to be painted wrinkle black, to rectify that.
Overall, the doors themselves are pretty nice. The surface should have been cleaned better before spraying since it looks like there's chinks of sawdust under the varnish in places. Quality control in the Tuscon shop is an obvious issue.
Three stars at best, verging on 2.7.
