Great Desk, poor delivery
Delivery aside, this is a great desk. The dark bamboo is darker than appears in the picture, but for me this was a good thing. It blends well with the black-brown furniture I have from IKEA. The 3 stage legs are really a must in my opinion, as the lowest setting is still surprisingly high. Assembly is easy and the the desk top itself very sturdy holding a dual monitor arm clamped at the back. Some blemishes on the side veneer from manufacturing, but nothing to complain about. The cable tidy trays leave much to be desired though. You will actually find yourself struggling to fit anything fancier than the most basic 4/5/6 way UK power strip, its that tight. The angle for screwing it into the desk as well makes it quite difficult. For the overall price, I expected much, much better considering the frame itself is a standard model that many others use from the same vendor in China. In the end, I used two strips of velcro tape on each cable tray so that I can remove it and access the plugs more easily.
The biggest disappointment was delivery. Take note, this is coming from Belgium to the UK. Be prepared to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery due to mishandling by TNT/FedEx. I had to phone the customs clearance line 4 times to get them to submit the paperwork which they assured me was submitted. It was not and each time they failed to spot this, insisting it would be cleared in 24 hours. It was only when I pressed the issue and reminded them that it had been sitting in the UK for 3 days that they investigated and found out it was a known IT glitch. It seems they were prepared to let it sit for days/weeks/months as they had no controls for items overdue on customs clearance. Once resolved, it immediately cleared customs to which I was told it will be up to 72 hours for someone to physically move it from the customs area. The tracking system on TNT/FedEx leaves much to be desired and causes confusion with the Live Chat agents, who kept asking if I sent necessary information to the customs team (who didn't actually need anything). A complaint to the TNT management team was immediately fobbed off and closed with the response "there's nothing we can do". In the end I spent 6 days in the house unsure when it will be delivered. 3 out of 4 parts were delivered on a Friday (it was still tracked to local hub) with the 4th part appearing on the Saturday. Packaging for the table top was more or less destroyed, but the internal packaging/padding seemed to prevent damage. It was noted as damaged by the delivery driver as he collected it from the warehouse.
TNT is a very poor choice for delivery and would encourage others to think carefully before sacrificing a few days unpaid leave to sit and wait for their unpredictable delivery schedule. Might save money by collecting it yourself.
