Practically Perfect In Every Way
It was a big leap of faith to invest in Eargo’s product for the price. I’ll summarize my experience: it is worth it.
From the moment I put these into my ears, I immediately experienced simply better hearing. The world did not sound “amplified” as so many personal amplifiers do. The amplifier in these do not add any hissing white noise to the amplified sound. Sit in a quiet room and it remains quiet in your ears. Contributing to this very natural sound experience is the open air design that allows all sound to still reach your eardrum rather than having to listen to the entire world through a tiny loudspeaker. As a music lover, I feared the loss of fidelity in music. Not here. Music retains a rich natural sound because it is enhanced by the Eargo, not replaced. Add to this the comfort of the open air design: closed dome amplifiers cut off fresh air to the ear canal. That makes my ear canals itch in very short order.
So I can hear better. Cosmetically these are so unnoticeable that at my last visit to the doctor, they were surprised then the thermometer would not enter my ear! And let’s talk about the howling feedback caused by simply giving someone a hug: every other product I tried claimed advanced feedback reduction and it never worked. Put these properly in your ears and go hug the world. Better hearing is all you’ll get from these. And gone is my fishing for some small buttons to increase amplification as with other products. Quickly pat your ear twice with a flattened hand to take it to the next level.
The charging case is not a new idea, but works as advertised. I get 3+ full charges from mine and it goes everywhere with me.
I won’t say there is no wrong here. The way these fit in my ears, it is difficult to hold my iPhone to my head and have a conversation. Since California law requires cellphone use by a person driving a car to be hands free, I constantly wore a headset. The adjustment I made was to put a bluetooth stereo into each of my cars, or use the phone on speaker or if I want high quality sound to listen to music and make phone calls while I work, I use the Bose Soundwear Companion. (LG Electronics and JBL now also make similar products.) I don’t see any of this as a negative, because with the headset I used to wear, I was constantly removing one or both sides from my ears to carry on an in-person conversation. No longer.
I cannot recommend this product highly enough. With the satisfaction guarantee here, your only risk is that your hearing will be better. If not satisfied, you’ll have your money back.
About me: I have enough hearing loss that I am known for asking people to repeat themselves to the point of frustration, stifling conversation. I have owned three other brands of personal hearing amplifiers: the Soundhawk (no longer in business), the basic Tweak (discontinued), and Britzgo. My satisfaction was in that order as well. So it is with a great deal of experience that I find satisfaction with Eargo.
