I recently purchased replacement 5”
I recently purchased replacement 5” post caps. When I searched for my RDI model number, it brought me to Deck Expressions – specifically the 5” New England Post Cap by RDI. The product page wasn’t totally clear, as it didn’t provide full dimensions for the 4”, 5”, and 6” caps. To be safe, I added a note with my order asking if this cap was a replacement for the 5” Providence Post Cap, RDI model #NPP5W.
I never got a response.
When the caps arrived, they didn’t fit. I emailed customer service on 6/15:
“Received order however the caps are the incorrect size. I did add a note to the order asking if the cap was a replacement for NPPC5W. ”
Danny LaBarbera replied:
“Would you like to return this order? You did order a cap that will fit a 5x5 post sleeve. ”
I responded:
“Yes. Do you have a replacement product that will fit the RDI NPP5CW?”
6/16 Danny replied:
“I am not familiar with that part number. ”
I asked again for inside dimensions of the 4x4 cap.
No response.
I requested return instructions on 6/17.
Nothing.
Requested again on 6/26.
Finally got a reply — 11 days after my first request — with instructions saying I would be charged a 25% restocking fee.
I sent this:
“I don’t really feel I should pay a restocking fee. When I placed the order, I asked a question in the comments if this unit was a replacement for model number NPPC5W. I did not receive a response to that question. I just received the order. See attached email chain. I also requested the inside dimensions of the next size down. Still waiting for that response. ”
6/27 Danny replied:
“What size is your existing post?”
I sent back a photo and the exact measurements.
As of today, 7/16, still no response.
If there were a zero-star option, you'd get it for customer service. Danny’s in the running for Employee of the Month — mostly because no one else could match his unique combination of delayed responses and complete lack of useful information. A rare talent.
