My dream of composting.
Mill has been a dream come true for me. I've always wanted to compost but never got around to it. Initially, I considered Lomi, but it seemed too small and more expensive than Mill. Since my town doesn't allow compost recycling, I had to compost in my backyard.
**Pros:**
1. **Aesthetic Appeal**: Mill is the best-looking trash can I've ever seen, adding a touch of elegance to my kitchen.
2. **Environmental Impact**: I waste a lot of food and always feel guilty about it. With Mill, I feel better knowing my food waste isn't going to a landfill and producing toxic waste.
3. **User-Friendly**: The Mill app is fantastic and makes the process very easy.
4. **Odor-Free**: The most impressive feature is that it doesn’t stink at all! I was skeptical about this claim, but it’s true. It’s odor-free and has made composting a guilt-free experience.
**Cons:**
1. **Size**: The bin is small compared to the actual trash can because of the large filters designed to eliminate odor. This means it fills up quickly, especially since we waste a lot of food.
2. **Weight**: When it's time to dump it out, the bin is quite heavy and requires two hands.
3. **Handling Liquids**: If you put in too much liquid or watery foods, it gets wet, requiring at least two more four-hour Mill runs.
4. **Noise**: While generally quiet, it can be loud at times.
5. **Cost and Additional Fees**: It's an expensive option, and you have to pay to return your compost grounds. I initially thought this was included, so it was a bit of a disappointment. However, I've found that simply throwing the compost over the fence works fine.
Overall, despite some drawbacks, I'm happy with my purchase. It helps me reduce my environmental impact without the guilt, and my family loves it so much that we’ve given it various names like Mill Bill, Foo Foo, Gulp, and Millie Binillie. If you don’t mind spending a bit more and don’t have local composting options, Mill is a great choice.
