Not yet ready

I haven't receive the products I order so I can't review it. Should send out the email 1 or 2 month after a customer receive the product, that's my suggestion.

First and last time!

Filmtools has been quite unprofessional. Let me tell you my experience and why this was my first and last time dealing with them. 1. I make an order of four lights. These lights were not in stock and I recieved a misleading email that looked like an order confirmation. Anyone would probably glance at it and think “nice, my order has been recieved.” Well I’m glad I read everything because at the bottom, they have fine print that says they have a 20% cancelation and restocking fee. There is text that follows that mentioning to respond to the email saying that I understand that the items I ordered are on back order and if they did not receive an email response that they would charge me the 20%. Right off the bat, I felt like I was being hustled. 2. I get notification that my order has shipped. Great! I followed the fedex tracking and I scheduled a shoot relying on the equipment I ordered. Well to my surprise, the order comes in incomplete. Now this causes a huge inconvenience because I don’t have everything for my shoot. 3. I contact them and they said “Looks like your shipment was split in two due to different warehouse locations. The remainder of your order is shipping out today and you will receive another e-mail shorty with a tracking number :)” As if they didn’t even check in the first place and just fixed the problem by sending it out as soon as they found out they made a mistake. I responded to that email with my situation hoping they would do an overnight rush but no answer. The tracking number never came in. I contact them yet again and didn’t receive a response. I contacted again a third time and then I get a response saying that they still don’t know what is going on with the rest of the order and that they would provide me with details. They never did. I hate to beg people for things. I’ve given up. These people just don’t care. They have my money and I am left with an incomplete order. I don’t think they plan on doing anything about it either. I don’t like to leave negative reviews, but I’ve done everything trying to resolve things directly and it hasn’t worked. Hopefully others will see this and know what bad service these people have. I reccomend buying from B&H or amazon or any other trusted company that actually care about the customer and delivering. Even eBay has a good customer satisfaction. Not these people.

What happened?

Granted this is only my most recent experience. But I lost my speed wrench on set on the 14th and ordered a new one same day. Payed extra for priority overnight shipping. I knew I’d be on set the next day but by it should be there by the time I got home. Several days turned to a week without it even shipping out. This kept going until I called them the morning of the 27. Apparently it had never gone out. Didn’t get any reasoning why. I asked for reimbursement on the overnight shipping cost and they said I wouldn’t be charged for it. Well it says it went out on the 27th. I still got charged for shipping. Took 3 phone calls for them to reimburse me for shipping. And now it’s the 30th and I still don’t have a speed wrench. It’s embarrassing. My last purchase with them was much more pleasant but this felt noteworthy. Probably going to look to other scources for future film tools.

Shipping cost

The shipping cost on purchasing from filmtools is high. Adorama and BHphotovideo offer free shipping. Then come to find out, the products are on a 2 to 3 week back order. I think if you are local, filmtools is good to buy from.

In Stock ships next business day - NOT

Ordered a handful of 4' and 2' Quasar tubes, both of which showed that they were in stock and would ship the next business day, which would have been a Monday. Late that Monday evening I got an email stating that the 4' tubes were considered "Special Order" and if I really wanted to order them they would be available in 2-3 weeks. I also noticed that they had charged my PayPal account $90 for the 2' tubes but that they had not shipped yet. I requested that they cancel the whole order and refund me my money. I got no response for 48 hours, at which time I got an email stating that they had refunded me $90 and another email stating that my 2' tubes had shipped. So not only did they not have the 4' in stock as was indicated but they also didn't attempt to ship what they did have in stock for 3 days. Thankfully the 2' tubes never shipped. I can only imagine the trouble that would have been to return them.
