It's a winner
I have 3 generations of R1's, and each is a bit different. All of them have served as essential daily layers under my down and shell in Chicago, where the weather is kind of intense. I love the weight-to-warmth ratio, and R1 are incredibly thin. My 1st R1 is reversible with different pocket setups on each side, and a thick fuzzy pile. The 2nd gen is less fuzzy but a dense stitch that's still heavy. This new one seems to have an almost loose-and-airy stitch, highly breathable vs the others but still very warm, maybe the warmest. Same reinforced trim on hood and wrists. Hood fits under bike helmet or a winter hat if it's really cold, but you'll look dumb wearing the hood by itself. The chest pocket is useful and side pockets are nice. Zipper is great. I can use this 4 seasons as a "just enough" layer. I'm 6'2" 220lbs and XL fits nice just a tad loose. My other 2 are L's and work fine as "base layer fit" of you want a tight feel. Didn't know if I'd like the Oatmeal color but it's grown on me.
