Fine tuning
As a whole, I find the X24 a reasonably priced stationary training bike, complemented by the iFit software, which, if I were to be honest, was the reason I selected it over the competition. I have owned this bike for a month now and ridden it almost every day on a variety of workouts. I am a seasoned cyclist, and stationary bikes have been part of my training for decades. So, my initial impressions. . . the bike is well constructed, easy to assemble, and ergonomically pleasing. Although the screen is a great size, when you are out of the saddle and pumping those leg muscles up steep inclines, your nose is literally inches from the screen; however, I understand that moving the screen further away would upset the center of gravity and cause bike swaying, so a small price to pay, perhaps. I also experienced problems with resistance misbehavior whilst using predefined workouts, which was easily resolved by tying an old T-shirt between the bars and saddle to prevent sweat from running between the plastic side panels onto the resistance mechanism. I have since purchased an $8 sweat cover, and the problem has never recurred. Finally, I had also experienced a similar misbehavior with the incline/decline function, but that, too, was resolved by improving my internet signal, as mid-program signal interruptions prevented the actuators from responding to the program's instructions or lack thereof. NordicTrack could easily overcome both of these issues by providing simple instructions, redesigning the side panels, or including a free Sweat Cover in the package. In conclusion, we all have different riding regimens, methods, and behaviors, so once the creases have been ironed out, the NordicTrack/iFit combo is a very reasonable offering for most cyclists. I initially thought the incline/decline function would amount to nothing more than a gimmick; however, I was pleasantly surprised to experience how it lends itself to being a more convincing ride where resistance and incline can collectively fool your mind into believing that you are traversing the landscape, thus encouraging you to ride more authentically. It would be remiss of me not to compliment the iFit software. I especially enjoy the professionalism of the trainers, the variety of locations, and workout techniques. The GUI could perhaps use a little work, but that certainly does not outweigh the other benefits it offers and encourages me each day to return to the saddle. As Yuri Hauswald likes to say. . . keep chasing the horizon!
