Fantastic experience with some minor suggested improvements
This was our first experience with the Getaway House and we had a fantastic time. Hubby and I spent 4 days reconnecting without the grind of daily life interfering. The cabin itself was a really nice dive into minimalistic living and everything we expected was there for us in the tiny cabin. Bed was comfortable, sheets were clean, and the kitchen was well equipped. We were a little sad that we didn't see much wildlife around our campsite. Just a rabbit, a chipmunk, a couple squirrels, and one woodpecker. You could hear a lot more birds than you could see.
We appreciated having cell service, since we had small children back home. The outpost was about 20-30 minutes from anywhere we wanted to go (Columbus, Nashville, and Brown County State Park). The staff was helpful and very quick to fulfill any requests we had during our stay.
We both agreed that it would have been nice to have one more electrical outlet near the bed and some tissues available. Our shower was also not water-tight at the door, no matter what we did. We thought maybe the cabin itself was not completely level on the site and that's why the shower leaked.
As another review stated, the tick activity was pretty high. Because of this, we did not spend as much time outside as we would have liked. Even with tick repellent, we had them crawling up our legs and we even found one inside our cabin crawling on the floor. Not sure if pesticide treatments would be possible or effective, but could be nice for the future, at least around the campsites.
We hiked the nature path which was okay. Nowhere could we find how long the path was, and there wasn't any way to know how much further you had to go until you reached the end. Be aware that parts of it were very steep and traction was difficult with the path being gravel (my husband even slipped a couple of times with legit hiking boots).
Overall our experience was quite pleasant and we will definitely be returning for more R&R out in the woods.
