My young bloke took some
My young bloke took some convincing in acquiring a new stick for the quiver, issue for him - grom boards are shaped, well. . . for groms & no issue with this. Our dilemma, aged 12 & fond of big swells he found his current 3 boards all a bit one dimensional & difficult to surf in 6 foot plus. 5'4 Wundabat, holy smokes! We took receipt day of departure (cheers for expediting shipping Sideways!) On annual Father / Son NW Desert Sessions. 1st day 6 to 8ft ground swell, take it easy on 1st wave get the feels sorted says I. . . yeah righo, straight into a bomb set down a steep face into a swooping bottom turn followed by a looping powerful draw off the top, rinse & repeat bottom turn but this time really gives the rail some stick & smack off the top. Can't wipe the grin off his face with a hammer, managed to get behind the lens to capture it & the only gangly grom out in the line-up. I head out to him & he says 'holy sh!t, you get to see that? I get what you were trying to say'. Bitter sweet moment hearing him acknowledge Fatherly advice as I ponder why a 12yo has bigger knackers than his old man. My fate has been sealed sadly, the top dog condemned to the kennel.
