Good Starting Point

I'm not certain what I was expecting when I decided to go with Lid Picker. Probably a report that had all the helmets that I was looking at on a "best" to "worst" fit spectrum. I was certainly expecting that there would be at least one "ideal" fit helmet and more than a few "close enough" helmets (all green columns). Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be an ideal helmet for me, and no helmet that I was interested in was in all green. So, I looked through the results, changed my budget a bit, and asked a few questions. I ended up getting a helmet that was "too round" for my head, but fit in the other categories. So far I have been pleased with my selection. I was hoping this would shed some light on what might fit my head. It did that, but be aware that the most important measurement is the third column (measured size range) and that the other two, particularly in my case the first column, can be taken with a grain of salt (and some advice). Overall, it was money well spent.

Helmet fit is the darnedest thing!

Let me qualify this review by first saying I haven’t picked a new helmet yet….still looking. Unfortunately several of the shops in my area don’t stock several of the helmets that were “ideal” for my melon shape. I think the lid picker service is a good one because it showed me several different helmets that appear to be in my size that I really would not have considered and several that I have used in the past that I really shouldn’t be looking at based on the report and if I was honest with myself the prior helmets really didn’t fit me well. So where does that leave me with lid picker….. I think its a good tool, the report sorted the helmets and enabled me to eliminate many that I would have considered before I got the lid picker report and showed me others that I should consider but would not have had I not gotten the report. I am confident that I will end up with a great fitting helmet with the info I received from the lid picker report.

Good info

I can say I thought this was an excellent idea. I have not used the info to buy a new helmet as of yet but since receiving the info it does however give me better information on what helmet will most likely come close to what will be best for my noggin. Warm regards, Ed J.

Didn't help me at all.

I appreciate that there's a service like this out there. And while I'm sure it works well for some head shapes, it did nothing for me as a long oval. With only a couple of helmets that I've found that actually fit me well, I was hoping Lid Picker would help me zero in on a few more. After double and triple checking my measurements, my report arrived about thirty minutes later. My excitement turned to irritation when it told me the Bell Custom 500, a helmet that's ridiculously wide on me, like wearing a globe on my head, was a perfect fit. There were several other examples of the report being just plain wrong to the point that I just didn't trust the it any longer. I would have rather saved my money and just tried on helmets in person. Which is what i ended up doing. Maybe it's worked for some. I'm sure it works great if you're an intermediate oval or round oval head. But if you're those head shapes, you've got a million helmets to choose from as it is. It's a good start that seems like It could be vastly improved as far as value and functionality. I'd like to see it as a live service that's updated every year with verified measurements (not just going by the companies' size charts) of both old models and new models. At this point, I'm not going to put any more money toward it in a couple of years just to see if they've added more helmets.
