Even if most of your backpacking or camping is confined to relatively moderate climates, I believe that this piece of gear is quite versatile. As a lifelong Floridian, nighttime temperatures less than 70° feel downright cold. Fortunately, I found the Torrid Hood on sale! Wish it was with me on a recent backpacking excursion in far north Florida where I spent a frigid (39°) night. My Apex Revelation quilt had me covered from the neck down, but only after wrapping my head with my hiking shirt, a bandana, and assorted nylon stuff sacks was I able to feel reasonably comfortable. Needless to say, this featherweight item will accompany me on all future trips. Heading to the Eastern Sierra this week and my quilt and hood are the first things I stuffed in my luggage!
