My ElliptiGO SUB and 11R are my favorite bicycles
I purchased the ElliptiGO SUB, as soon as it became available, to complement my ElliptiGO 11R Long Stride (purchased in 2014). I have been alternating between the 11R and SUB ever since. They offer two different riding experiences. To me, the 11R is more enjoyable for a long ride, since the long stride of the elliptical rails allows the wheels to cover more distance per stroke. The SUB, requiring near constant pedaling, is more enjoyable for a short ride.
The SUB and 11R are easy to mount and dismount, which appeals to me since the New Jersey roads, especially in Bridgewater, tend to be poorly maintained, minimal shoulders, and have lots of traffic, including too many landscaping vehicles parked alongside the roads. If I am about to be pinched by narrow roads with drivers coming from both directions, it is easy to maneuver into a driveway and dismount—which is not an easy feat on a road bicycle whether clipped-in or not.
Both the 11R and the SUB certainly provide a better workout than a traditional road or hybrid bicycle (I rode a Cannondale Synapse 3 from 2008–2014). An unexpected benefit of the 11R and SUB is that they get far fewer flat tires than road bike and they require much less maintenance such as front/rear derailleur adjustments. I put a little air in the tires and ride.
The characteristic which most appealed to me is how much safer I feel on an ElliptiGO because you are standing up to ride. I am more visible to drivers and it is much easier to maneuver and dismount in an emergency.
