Love HMG!

Just bought the Daybreak pack and love it for day hikes or travel. I've had the porter for a long time and have used many of their shelters both to hunker down in a storm and for a restful night's sleep. I love HMG and their attention to detail and quality is obvious by their products performance.

Great climbing bag

I went thru a few bags for lugging my climbing gear to some remote crags, and this one is by far the most comfortable for the roominess. I can fit my water bladder, 70m rope, shoes and plenty of gear, and the aluminum stays keep the bag perfectly fitted to my back.

Hyperlite Porter Pack 5400 Review: My husband has been using a Hyperlite Porter Pack for years and loves it. I've resisted switching over for just as long because I love having a variety of pockets and never liked top-stuff-only packs. Eventually, my need for dropping weight was made very clear by my body with the addition of packrafting equipment, etc, and I took the plunge. I'm happy to say I love my new pack! Some specifics: 1) I was worried about the limited amount of padding on the hip belt. And thought my hips got a little more sore from the belt than on my other pack with heavier padding, it was completely manageable - especially considering my hips get sore no matter what! 2) I called the Hyperlite folks to discuss which pack to buy - not being sure what the real difference is between the Porter, Windrider, and Southwest (there isn't one besides the outer pockets/daisy chain) and was not surprised to get a very friendly and knowledgeable rep who even let me interrupt him :) He clearly answered all my questions with as much or as little detail as I wanted, and understood what was most important to me (because he listened). 3) I was concerned about moving to a pack that had significantly less pockets on the outside than my other pack - I'm pretty lazy and didn't want to have to get inside the pack all the time. However, I found I didn't really miss them. If this is a problem for you, get better at pre-planning the way you pack! As long as I planned out really well what and where things were packed, it was not a problem (I also purchased the outside pocket for the Porter - highly recommended). 4) I am a little lazy all around and knew I could fit all my gear into a 4400, but opted for the 5400 because I didn't want to spend as much time stuffing my pack - it was much easier to get things to fit without trying hard and it cut my prep time down. My husband's prediction that I would simply take more things was incorrect :) 5) Very durable - my husband's pack, about 4 years old, seems indestructible. 6) My friend purchased the pods for his pack and he was very pleased with them. Overall, I am very happy with my pack and it is a valuable addition to my setup. I've never done a 5 night backpacking/packrafting trip with such a light pack overall and it significantly enhanced my experience. Thanks HMG for making such amazing equipment!
