My old Weller soldering gun has been my go-to for soldering for 4 decades. But over the years it has been dropped many times. The case was broken in more and more places, nearly shattered, and held together with duct tape. On speculation, not knowing the original model number, I ordered a replacement shell/case for the current 550 model. The internals fit perfectly except for the pair of work lights, and those were easily modified to fit the new mounting position. Very pleased. I like the old one so much better than the 8200 model I got a few years ago.

Very fast

The iron heats up quickly and the included tip holds enough heat-mass to do good-sized solder joints. Temperature is excellent. At my 'old' age, slightly brighter LEDs might be nice, but having them built-in and pre-focused on the workpiece is a great bonus. Excellent design and quality.
