Nishant (Call centre): 5-star. Website: 2-star - clicking 'BOOK' (& giving payment details) does NOT secure a price. CALL to verify $ before having your details over!
My 5-star rating is specifically for Nishant ext 805 who has the ability and knowledge to communicate clearly, concisely, helpfully and friendly. I'd hire him in a heartbeat!
If not for him, I would have booked with the airline direct, vs using Globehunters.
Globehunters' lured me in with a 25% cost saving vs booking direct, but it ended up being a 1.3% cost saving!! See below for actual numbers / trade-offs.
Given this significant difference between the advertised rate, I give Globehunters' web experience 2-stars: Advertised prices are unattainable; their content is misleading (inviting people to "BOOK" and give payment details for notoriously unattainable prices is pushing the boundaries of consumer law).
Given Globehunters acknowledge (though not on the website) that "prices fluctuate and cannot be guaranteed", the "BOOK" button should be changed to an "ENQUIRE" button, with no payment details requested (or at the very least, clarity that card details are taken to reserve the funds but not taken until confirmed by both parties).
I am thankful to have read enough reviews to know of this issue in advance, and instead called after seeing a desirable price, rather than handing details over beforehand.
------
Here's the actual numbers for my Cathay Pacific SYD-LHR flight (travelling December 24):-
$4,351 = Globehuners advertised price available to "Book" online
$5,205 = price I ended up paying Globehuners
$5,274 = Cathay Pacific's price (which would have included a bonus 50% extra miles).
= $69 cost saving with Globehunters LESS 50% air miles, and the pain of a mandatory middle-man to deal with should any issues arise requiring change/cancellation (airline will not deal with you at the airport or over the phone if you book through an agent)
Note: Globehunters threw in a 'goodwill gesture' of a 'flexible' fare -- this is NOT the same as the airline flexible fare. It simply means that Globehunters will not add their own charges on top of the airline's charges [for changes / cancellation etc]. 'Goodwill' suggests it's uncommon, so consumers should be careful to establish what costs would apply (on top of airline fees) if something goes wrong, and decide if it's actually worth the ticket price saving.
IN SUMMARY: I'm find Globehunters' total lack of transparency dishonest and frustrating, but thanks to Nishant being such a star in the call centre (doing his best to find a better priced flights), I booked with them anyway.
Yes, exceptional over-the-phone customer service can supersede shoddy digital experiences - whoda thought ;)
Thank you Nishant.
