My favorite cocktail is the Old Fashioned. I always have bitters and half a jar of maraschino cherries in the fridge but not always a fresh orange. Sometimes I've been so desperate I've used a couple ounces of orange soda in place of the sugar and orange. Now I don't have to worry and they come out good every time.

we discovered this while at Origins Red Rock Hotel where Vince, the bartender, makes this wonderful Barrel Aged Manhattan with the cocktail syrup and Aspen Rye. I obtained both the recipe and the ingredients, and brought home to Calif. so I could make this cocktail.
