Having owned several Barbour jackets
Having owned several Barbour jackets over the years, I had largely moved away from waxed jackets in favour of modern waterproofs. Recently, however, I felt the pull back to something more traditional and wanted a jacket a little more refined. After some research I came across Private White and decided to try the Wax Walker.
The sizing questionnaire was spot on and delivery was prompt. As soon as I tried the jacket on I had a strong feeling it would be a keeper. The finish is excellent, the wool liner fits perfectly, and the buttons and zips are clearly made to last.
What I particularly appreciate is the understatement. There are no shoulder badges or obvious branding, nothing advertising the jacket to the world. It simply does its job quietly, which suits me perfectly.
As someone who spends plenty of time outdoors practicality matters. The jacket has warm pockets, good storage, and is comfortable whether walking, driving, or sitting for long periods.
Its first proper outing was to the Aviva for the rugby. Admittedly there was little risk of barbed wire or blackthorn that afternoon, but it passed the test very well all the same, warm pockets, plenty of storage, accessible hip flask ! and comfortable throughout the match.
A fine jacket that balances quality, practicality, and quiet confidence.
