Walnut Oil Gel, New Favorite Medium
Like many other artists, I've wanted to replace harmful painting mediums with non-toxic alternatives. I was happy to find this walnut oil gel to use for oiling out my painting as I work, rather than using Liquin or Galkyd, etc, which put off irritating fumes. I was pleased with how the gel restored the color and gloss to the dry paint. Later I reached for it again to try as a replacement for Liquin to soften the paint and make it flow better, and as a glazing medium. Right away it felt like the medium I've been looking for, for a long time. I am a slow methodical realist painter working in thin layers and the longer drying time of this gel is perfect for my working style. I was always annoyed with how quickly other mediums would start to dry on the palette but this gel keeps my color mixes workable through the day. I bought the small tube and after trying it for a week or so, bought the large tube. I don't want to run out! Also I use walnut oil to clean my brushes as I work, so I feel like I've got a good set-up now.
