Fell apart in 3 washes
I so wanted to love The Organic Cotton Crew Sweater (glowing reviews!). Unfortunately, after 3 washes on gentle cycle + air dry. . . I pulled out the sweater the other day only to find it start to unravel at the underarm.
The unravelling is happening where the seams / shapes are joined. As a fashion industry profession who spent years working on knitwear, I know that means that someone did not secure the ends of the stitch properly. When I look closer, I can see where the yarn end was haphazardly single-knotted (which is not a secure way to finish a stitch). It simply doesn't make sense that a garment priced at $98 can't last a lifetime. The fact that it can't is a direct contradiction to Everlane's positioning on sustainability. A sweater that is made to fall apart is not sustainable. Again, as someone who comes from fashion, I am only too aware of the ethics, transparency, accessibility, and sustainability issues in the industry. I've tried Everlane on and off over the years because I really, really want to love the product. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident and I'm left to believe that the quality of Everlane's product is just not there. Yes, it will be nice for 1 or 2 wears. But long-term, you're better off investing in a brand that that can execute higher quality product. Uniqlo, for instance.
