Mixed Bag

I made some good connections with other attendees at the conference, but for the price paid we should have had higher quality sessions and 2 full days of content instead of ending Day 2 early. The "chairperson" on Day 1 was a particularly weak speaker and panel facilitator.

Not as much value as I'd hoped for

I did not find as much value as I hoped for in this conference. The presenters were primarily solution providers, and there was not much diversity of technology represented. I was anticipating more practitioner-based conversations, and a wider spectrum of technological solutions represented (e.g., IoT, drone applications in claims). A more accurate title for the conference would have been "Digital Marketing in Insurance", and maybe I would have gotten more out of the conference if digital marketing was my focus area.

great concept but failed to deliver on many fronts

-need to vet the speakers/moderators to be sure they’re good. -Worst moderator I’ve seen anywhere - a middle schooler could have done better. It was clear he wasn’t comfortable in front of crowds, he hadn’t prepared, didn’t know people or company names, and was not a natural with people to where he could even fake it. Very distracting Most conversations with people I heard and ones I had gravitated to how bad that was - detracted from the entire conf. His talk was horrible too. Victoria was much better. -too much exhibitor/selling outreach. if i want to be spammed and sold to I’ll answer unknown numbers on my cell phone. as soon as I was announced as a speaker I got hammered every few days and at the conf. this doesnt happen at other conf. as much. -some of the sessions were great -Conversation at roundtables was good.

Good speakers, poorly organized

While some of the insurtech speakers like Tim Attia, Kyle Nakatsuji and Rashmi Melgiri were really good, the day one moderator was embarrassingly poor, some speakers did not show up and the schedule kept changing to accommodate gaps, deletions in the schedule. It is as if the organizers were just piecing together the conference off the cuff. Maybe that works for brainstorming sessions, but not for conferences for which attendees are paying to attend. The fact that the moderators each day were not named in the schedule that went out in advance was a warning sign. The day one moderator didn't know how to pronounce the name of Trov, was not familiar with the companies and interviewees, could not formulate questions based on the responses of his panelists and could not develop insightful questions to ask, so he left it to the audience to ask questions. I understand this was the first time this Summit was put together and it showed. If you want participants to return next time you should comp them to attend for free as they likely will not want to pay to attend another such WBR conference. I suggest you attend the TU Automotive Connected Car USA conference here in Chicago in September to see how a similarly sized Chicago insurance / technology conference is expertly organized.

poor facilitation, great attendees

The moderator on day 1 was beyond poor and I think poor attendance day 2 reflected that. The attendees were very strong, however, so that made the round table discussions very worthwhile.
