Very fun! Worth the money!
It's all the simplicity, functionality, and anticipation of film without the insane price tag or wait time of film! It definitely captures more candid, authentic shots rather than the very poised and perfect pictures of the modern digital camera era. The imperfections and slight off centeredness of pictures, the camera lens, and the functionality of the camera itself lends to pictures more akin to my childhood. The fun in coming home and plugging in to see what we got is like the excitement of Christmas morning. My kids enjoy taking pictures more with these because they are not distracting like phones or even screen digital cameras. There's always the interest in wanting to see what's there, so being in a position of having to wait means 3 things for us: 1. We're super excited to come home and see what pictures we have, 2. We aren't as likely to take (and retake) a dozen pictures trying for that perfect shot, we just enjoy our imperfect results, and 3. The inability to see and take/retake means the camera gets put down faster and we return back to the moment quicker than if it were taken on a digital camera or especially a phone. I like keeping my phone in my bag and just having this camera around my wrist for quick shots. We are slowly building a candid photo album with some pretty funny, unique pictures that we weirdly treasure more than the more perfected shots take on the phone. You absolutely capture a more authentic picture this way. In an instagram-styled world, this is a fun way to detach from the weirdly perfect personas of the internet and return to just being in the moment and truly authentic. I'm convinced embracing this is actually beneficial for my kids who are otherwise not online for their own mental welfare and personal safety. Bonus points, I dont run out of film and certainly not out of space.
One particular component I would change is the means to turn on and off. When trying to capture a moment, that 2-3 second hold to turn it on feels like an eternity. I'm not sure what a better solution would be but I'm not keep on the shutter button for on/off. Maybe a flatter, separate button that won't get bumped in a pocket that still auto turns off after 10 minutes would be nice. Definitely still recommend and love the camera. I think the price is wild but when I priced film cameras/film/developing, I easily justified buying this instead and i have zero regrets. It's been great. Pictures have been a wonderful quality, they carry a warmth I personally favor in photography even when using my DSLR. Here's a random selfie that honestly shocked me with how okay it turned out, and a random picture I took of the lambs with my camera.
