First off, I’ve got about
First off, I’ve got about 20 years in law enforcement and have been involved in numerous use-of-force incidents. My family enjoys rural living and I have plenty of options available in the armory. What I wanted here was something that fits between a harsh word and a bullet — which is why I purchased the Mission-4 Byrna.
The controls and ergonomics are mostly familiar, with a slightly different manual of arms from an AR15.
When it arrived, my 8-year-old son and I took it outside and shot a bucket stuffed with old blankets and covered with cardboard with a target on the front. The factory iron sights are REALLY good and very easy to zero, with clearly marked arrows for elevation and windage adjustments. Seriously — why don’t all iron sights do this and eliminate the guesswork?
I did install an Aimpoint PRO anyway, but the factory sights are excellent.
This thing hits hard. We recovered the nylon balls from the bucket and blankets afterward, and several had actually split in half from impacting the others. To me, that’s a good sign that the launcher is putting out respectable energy. I have a hard time imagining many people willingly pushing through 50 rounds of hard nylon balls.
Accuracy is perfectly adequate at 25 yards, though I probably wouldn’t push it much beyond that.
The M-LOK rail did arrive slightly damaged, but a quick email to Byrna had a replacement on the way immediately.
Pros:
Excellent factory sights
Familiar ergonomics
Hits surprisingly hard
Great training tool for firearms safety and discipline
Solid “less lethal” option for rural property owners
Overall, I’m impressed with it.
