I have low density, fine hair that varies from wavy to curly and has a very hard time holding a curl—often wash days start out looking good but by the end of the day it’s gone from curly to wavy and by the next day it’s weirdly wavy-straight-poofy-flat and there’s no refreshing it without starting all the way over with a new wash day (this is with supposedly “hard hold” gels, no leave in conditioner/creams, carefully diffusing, silk pillow case, and pineapple g my hair with often just makes the poofs and kinks worse). Briogeo’s curl charisma line is definitely the best one brand wash day I’ve found for my hair (I’ve tried tons of other brands!). I think my hair loooooves the protein and the gel works better than any other hard hold gel I’ve ever tried. I use the shampoo (sometimes twice depending on how good a lather I manage the first time), let the conditioner sit for a minute then squish and rinse (it’s got great slip), then still in the shower with dripping wet hair I smooth the gel thru and squish, then plop my hair, and diffuse to partly dry. The curls last to the end of the day and sometimes still look great the next day—best results I ever get! Couple things I would love to see change, but not sure if that’s even possible and it still be effective… I wish there was no fragrance (or only non-irritating essential oils but at least have the “fragrance” ingredients listed out—I’m always worried ugly things are hiding in the “fragrance” ingredient). I wish there was no PEGs, I’m wary of this ingredient because of some of the research I’ve read on it. And I wish my hair dried faster with the gel in it, I can wash my hair in the morning, diffuse it half way or till I get a cast (I don’t have patience to diffuse longer than 10-20 minutes) and it will still be damp by the time I scrunch it out before bed. This happens with all gels that leave a cast for me and if the gel doesn’t leave any cast the curls are gone and only a wave is left by the end of the day. So maybe there’s just no way around this, but a girl can dream. Overall though, love this line, it’s the one I go back to over and over and can generally rely on for some curls that last all day maybe into second day. Lovely!
