After playing with the same Titleist blades for 40 years, I finally convinced myself that I needed an upgrade in technology so I have purchased 6 sets of irons in the past 7 years only to subsequently resell those irons and return to my now 48-year-old blades. This Vice represents my latest attempt at replacing my old blades. The issues that I have had with all of the other new irons have been very similar in that they either have more offset, wider soles and/or a clickier sound and feel and they all have have too upright of a lie angle as this is something the golf club manufacturers decided to do to help hackers minimize slicing. Unwittingly, at the same time, these clubs result in golfers that normally hit a straight ball now having to fight pulling their shots. What attracted me to the Vice VGI01 was that it appeared to have little offset and a fairly slim sole width. Unfortunately it still has an upright lie angle and more importantly it has the dual bounce sole that I experienced in trying both the Srixon Z765 and Hogan Icon irons. This dual bounce feels great at setup but results in poor turf interaction causing fat shots if you have a shallow angle of attack and/or play on firm course conditions. The upright lie angle doesn't help matters. I have awarded this club five stars because it is without a doubt the best looking iron with this type of hybrid-hollow head design. The quality of the engineering appears to be every bit as good as any of the big five club manufacturers but at a lower price. This being said, I think this would be a fabulous club for someone that doesn't have a shallow swing path and/or plays on softer course conditions. Lastly, my only concern now is the 60-day playability full refund promise on the Vice Golf website. This prominently promoted on the Vice Golf website but after reading the small print provided after purchasing the club, I am concerned that this may not be honored. Additionally, I would like to say that I was thrilled with the fact that I received this club just six days after placing my order and that is coming from Germany to Kentucky.
