An excellent no nonsense pen with style for note taking in the outdoors or academia. With the fine nib it even doubles up as a sketch pen for those odd illustrative doodles... The tapered barrel puts the weight towards the nib which give it a nice balanced feel, and the length is just right to use it un-posted (I prefer un-posted..it gives my other hand something to do while holding the cap) New out of the box a couple of vigorous shakes couldn't get the ink to flow but a quick swirl in the kitchen sink with the soaking dishes and a couple of dabs with a serviette sorted that out. Even after a couple of days of not being used it starts up every time and the flow has just the right amount of wetness for different types of paper. Another bonus was that the nib did not need tuning. For those that are status conscious it gives a sense of one-up-manship over the ballpoint/ rollerball brigade but with the same ease of use. The Tornado Escape pattern from the range was chosen as the concept of space and scientific exploration appealed to my sensibilities ...I have more classical designs for my philosophical/ spiritual ruminations. A fountain pen goes beyond function it evokes a mood... an emotion. Ahhh....bliss!
