Background: My partner and I were looking online for a reputable store for lab grown diamonds for our engagement and there was certainly a fair share of brands that we could find online (e.g. Michael Trio [MT], SK, Love&Co, etc). However, what drew our attention to MT was the wide range of diamonds that they carry and the reasonable price tag that comes with diamond/ring. Backed with the already strong track record that MT has (from years of experience with Lab grown diamonds, as well as online reviews), we decided to make a trip down to MT physical store at Tanjong Pagar to have a better understanding of the products that they have. On the Appointment Day: The appointment scheduling process was hassle free and we arranged for an appointment on a Sunday afternoon. MT’s boutique store at Tanjong Pagar has a clean and posh look (both interior and exterior) and their staff were very welcoming. We were warmly greeted by “Soo” and she settled us down comfortably at the counter that caters for engagement diamonds and rings. During our time in the store, we note that there were a handful of walk-in and also appointment-based customers, hence it would be advisable to make an appointment with their friendly staff in advance to minimise waiting time (if it happens that all their staff are engaged) The Diamond Selection Process: Soo asked if we already had any specifications that we had in mind for the diamond and we shared that were interested in their lab grown diamonds that have about 1ct in size. With that in mind, she proceeded to show us their catalogue of lab grown diamonds, between the range of 0.8ct to 1.5ct, to let us have a flavour of the varieties, as well as how the prices fluctuate depending on the diamond size/quality. We shared we her the budget we had in mind, and she helped us to narrow down the diamonds that were likely to fit our criteria. We’d like to commend Soo for being professional and not pushy throughout the selection process; and she even went an extra mile to recommend us the “best” diamond that we can get within our budget. We were convinced by her recommendation and went ahead for the ring selection/setting. The Ring Selection Process: Although we had done our research beforehand, we were still in dilemma on the metal of choice (between 18K white gold and Platinum) for the ring, as each had their own merits. We decided to seek Soo’s advise on this since she is the expert and she first checked with my partner if she had any allergies to metal as Platinum would be the metal of choice if there are any metal allergies. Since my partner has no existing condition of metal allergies, Soo recommended for us to take the 18k white gold instead, as it has a “softer” feel and easier to maintain for daily use. In terms of ring design and setting, we were looking for a subtle design and one that would be able to “flush” with the wedding band (yet to be decided at that moment in time). Soo picked out a few engagement rings and wedding bands that will pair well and achieve the “flush” look for our consideration. We decided to go with one of the pairs and finalise on the diamond + ring specifications. Lead time and follow ups: Soo shared that the typical lead time for both the diamond and ring to be ready was about 3 months and indeed the promise was delivered. In between the first selection date and the final collection date, Soo had also arranged for us to view our selected diamond once it was ready, to ensure that all is good before they proceed to set the diamond with our ring specifications. During ring collection date, the process was hassle-free, and Soo also share with us on care-tips for the diamond ring. Overall Experience: Our experience with Michael Trio was pleasant and we would highly recommend it to our friends or anyone that is looking for engagement rings. The professionalism and expertise exhibited by Soo was commendable and we are thankful to have her support (be it in-store or aftersales) for our purchase with Michael Trio. Most importantly, my partner was elated with the end-product of the diamond ring and that is the best outcome that anyone could wish for selecting an engagement ring. This would not have been possible without the commitment of Michael Trio on their product quality, as well as their staff’s unwavering support.
