Stary night luxury line

Very disappointed that there was actual gold leaf type material on the painting. Nowhere in the description did it say that was on there. The actual painting was great and they ruined it by putting gold on it.

Beautiful!

Dance at Bougival is one of my favorite Renior paintings. I had a cheap print but this one on canvas gives me so much joy. I just love it!

Mounting a rolled canvas

For oil paintings on canvas, they are originally rolled over a frame and stapled. Those who order only the rolled canvas, which started out ON a frame, will pay heavily for mounting AND framing. And, as GESSO on raw canvas helped to shrink it, that advantage is lost. So, get ready for frame hunting or buidling AND the exterior frame, which needs perfect 45 degree cuts. One very slight miss on one corner and you no longer have a rectangle, but only, if you are lucky, a parallelogram. I took a few art classes at the University as part of my degree in Humanities, which today might be liberal arts, a bit broader field. I had to make the underlying frame, which must be quite sturdy, stretched the raw canvas, used a dependable staple gun with 3/8 staples or more, and then applied Gesso. Outer frame material you could buy, but a miter box and hand saw is too imprecise for this work. And, the material is expensive. And, a painting can be undone, aesthetically, by the wrong choice of frame. I wanted so much to let overstockArt do it all, but that would double the price. I want to compare them to my frame stores. I have my small pieces in Walmart frames (8x10) when they have something appropriate. Larger sizes require an investment almost as high as, or more, than overstockArt will charge. And no running around. If you have posters which have been touched up to LOOK LIKE paintings, and I have a few, including The School of Athens by Raphael, be prepared to add a matte. Now, we spent time making, and ruining, mattes in school. I was very good, but that was 40 years ago. It is precision work, because even small mistakes are hard to cover. But, some of your works that are not full oil paintings might need one. Or, you can try one for effect on a small print to see how it looks. My centerpieces are the Raphael, about 3' by 5', hanging on a structural wall built with stairs in front.. It was a print, and has a matte. That size, finished, cost $550.00, though the poster was $40. My Klimt of Adele Bloch-Bauer has an oatmeal matte and and gold paint frame. I would not buy the version here, as where they have brownish hues in the upper left quarter, I prefer the version with gold metallic there. The edges of the dress are indistinct, and melt into that gold quarter. I accent that piece with metals. A lampshade with a cloth but very copperesque, smooth, almost silky (probably rayon). I look for accoutrements with metal in them that are gold, or bronze, or burnished.
