If you’re even thinking about

If you’re even thinking about getting into beekeeping, do yourself a favor and start with Brian and Karen at Honey Lake Bee Company. These two are absolute bee whisperers—walking encyclopedias of apiary knowledge wrapped in the warmth of genuine hospitality. From day one, they made us feel not just supported, but truly confident in our ability to care for bees. Whether it was helping us choose the right equipment, understanding seasonal cycles, or learning how to inspect a hive without feeling like we were defusing a bomb, they had a calm, clear, and deeply experienced answer for everything. What really sets them apart is that they don’t just sell bees—they raise beekeepers. Brian’s practical tips saved us from a dozen rookie mistakes, and Karen’s passion for pollinators is downright contagious (in the best way). You don’t just walk away with bees—you walk away with a mentor, a community, and the inspiration to be part of something bigger. Highly, highly recommend. If every business ran like Honey Lake, the world would be sweeter—just like their honey.

I usually buy this salve

I usually buy this salve at the Palatine (IL) Farmer’s market. The Honey Lake folks are a highlight of the market. I ordered their Propolis Salve recently on their user friendly website during an extended stay out of town. My shipment arrived promptly with no hassles. Great company.
