2022 was my first real gardening experience on my own and all of my seeds were Ferry-Morse (a rookie did all her garden shopping at Lowe's) and the results were amazing. I had cucumbers, zucchini, squash and okra in abundance. I also bought tomato plants at Lowe's but they did okay but not as well as my cukes, zukes and squash. I also bought lettuce and spinach and did them in hydroponic systems. We had lettuce and spinach through the winter!!!
For whatever reason, this season I didn't go to Lowe's and had a variety of other seeds. I had cucumber, zucchini and squash plants but with minimal production. I started questioning what I had done differently. Same fertilizer, same composting techniques, same yard but nowhere near the results. I thought about the cooler and much drier spring and decided that was the problem. In August, I went' to Lowe's and there were my seeds. I grabbed some green bean, zuke and squash seeds (very limited quantities) and lettuce and spinach. I put out green bean, zuke and squash seeds in the garden deciding that it was simply to hot to even consider the lettuce and spinach. I have green bean, zuke and squash plants up and flowering. I only hope now that all of my bees have not gone south for the winter!! Planted lettuce and spinach in the hydro planters since we've experienced 58-65 degree nights. Lettuce has started up and a few spinach are popping out from the pods.
