Sturdy useful tool
Bought to replace a well-used similar tool that we lost track of in the remnants of Autumn leaves, during early Spring weeding and cleaning. That tool was from the late 80s, and the source company was no longer in business. I found this tool during an internet search. It seems sturdy enough to last, feels good in the hand, penetrates our heavy clay with less effort than other hand trowels, and it’s a good length for getting under and lifting roots, whether weeding or transplanting in close quarters. I added a thong to facilitate hanging on my existing peg board with our other hand tools; a countersink bit made a nice shoulder for each end of the thong hole and taping prevented splintering at the perimeters of the hole during drilling. And, I sprayed a couple of thin coats of red “rubberized plastic coating" on the handle — the red should reduce the chance of another tool loss. Although the color of the ash wood is obscured, unlike with paint, the wood grain and the Sneeboer brand on the handle show through this coating just fine. Painter’s tape kept it off the metal bits. The seller was very helpful with answers and shipping status.
