Journaling was always very confusing
Journaling was always very confusing and overwhelming to me. I'd ask myself, "What would I even write in a journal? Is it like a diary? Do I just started explaining my day? What do I do with it once I fill up the pages?"
I guess what I'm trying to say is, I just didn't see the real point in it. However,
I struggle with anxiety and depression and I continually hear journaling could decrease mental stresses. I couldn't understand how keeping a written log could improve either of these conditions, but what did I have to lose? So, I decided to try a one month subscription of Silk + Sonder.
I downloaded the app and was eager to get my first journal in the mail. When it finally arrived and I started to flip through the pages, I could already tell that this wasn't JUST a 'journal'. It seemed like it could be 'overwhelming' at first, but I was intrigued and kept an open mind.
Here I was, all my new pens and my new journal...but now what? I went on my app and decided to start by signing up for a weekly planning social and see what I'm supposed to be doing with this thing. I am very timid and have the best intentions to be optimistic. My anxiety gets the best of me in new situations and especially when "group activities" are involved. But, after my first social, I was hooked.
A host literally walks you through the pages of your journal, piece by piece, and helps you "set-up" your week. Examples are given, modifications are suggested, and they encourage you to make your journal your own. If you don't like a section, alter it. You don't want to fill out a section, skip it or draw a picture. The 'pressure' of filling out the pages feels like less work, and more 'fun.'
We are not even through the whole months yet and I can already see the changes in myself. I am more productive, organized, and less scatter brained. I can already see myself changing my negative thoughts or put-downs and adjust my thinking immediately. I bought a month subscription for a friend and upgraded my monthly membership to a year subscription. Silk + Sonder exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to see more improvement in myself and break the toxic cycle which felt embedded in my DNA.
Skeptical to give it a try? Feel like a "waste of money?" I don't know about you, but I waste a whole lot more than $30 a month on things that do absolutely nothing for my mental wellbeing.
Take the plunge! It's worth it, and even more, YOU'RE WORTH IT!
