New Life for an Old Tool
I wanted an antique vise to add a little "character" to my workshop so I put the word out. A neighbor told me his dad had one laying around his shop in Kansas that he'd bring out when he came out to Tucson for a visit. Man, it wasn't an antique, it was pre-historic! No name, labels, no ID of any kind, rusty, dusty, worn, but... a ton of character! Unfortunately the collar that pushes the jaw out via the jackscrew had rusted and busted off, so I did a measure and started my online search. Ruland had the PERFECT PART (5/8" shaft collar), in fact several to choose from. The search and ordering process was a snap, and I had my "new old" vise up and running after some serious wire brushing, cleaning and lubrication. Now that vise has a new life to help me work on a few old collectible rifles I like to shoot every once in awhile.
