Bought the salt-based softener. Pros: Can be self-installed (saves $$$); Price was similar to others of the same type; Has smart phone app to make it simple to adjust and keep tabs on it; Softened my very hard water (40 gpg) down to 0.5 gpg; doesn't need the more costly iron cleaning salt (saves $$); and it is smaller than my old unit. Cons: Arrived with broken stand (carton was crushed on the bottom) and a defective brine tank. But the cons have a plus side, both parts were replaced immediately with express-shipped parts. Mario at Customer Service is very knowledgeable and helpful. He got me the parts and helped me tune it in for even better performance.
