Bought this solder kit to repair the stator leads in my Generac portable generator. Generator quit making power, and upon investigation, the stator windings are aluminum coated with a baked on insulation. The lead wires for the excitation coil lost connection. The lead wires coming out of the stator are aluminum soldered to stranded copper lead wires with a 4 prong connector on the end. The solder joints were very poor from the factory and came loose in under 300 hours on the generator. This kit worked fantastic and saved me approximately $900 in parts or a new generator all together. Cleaned all the baked on insulation off the wires about 1", used the aluminum flux provided very generously and soldered the copper wires back to the aluminum, cleaned flux residue off, applied dielectric grease and shrink wrapped everything back up. I used a Weller 60 watt soldering iron and it took a bit longer than expected to heat up enough, but made a good joint after everything got hot enough. This solder doesn't flow as easily as regular electronic solder. A higher wattage soldering iron would have worked better. Generator was load tested after repairs and performed great. I highly recommend this kit for soldering aluminum to stranded copper wire. Haven't tried it on anything else yet.
