Good Wide Angle

I've been looking for a near focus wide angle monocular for several years now to replace one that finally bit the dust. It's been hard to find up till now—the models I used to use are no longer available. The Minox is the first monocular I've found that meets my needs. It's small and light and, do to its rectangular shape, fits easily in a shirt pocket. I haven't had the problems reported by other reviewers. While the focus adjustment doesn't always "stick", for me it hits the sweet spot between being too loose and too stiff to adjust precisely. YMMV. It's worth noting that the view is not round as with other monoculars, but rectangular, with rounded ends, hence the rectangular shape of the device. In this it is truly unique and fits well in a number of use scenarios, like looking at a black (or white) board, a TV, street and building signs, various rectangular displays, and stage productions. It doesn't look like the front "lens" is part of the magnification optics. Rather, it's a filter, of sorts, that protects the internal optics. How effective this is in keeping out dust and such only time will tell. While the device can be disassembled, I hope never to have to do so. While the neck strap attachments apparently bother some people, I've found them to be a small matter. Again, your mileage may vary.
