wow
I did a lot of research before purchasing the LX70 R8 Newtonian. I figured out the fact that I could get a lot more telescope for my money if I found a used Altazimuth Tripod (rated 30 + pounds) I prefer this type of tripod, for a beginner its just much easier to find what your looking for and tracking is easy once you get used to the way it moves.
Once I had the tripod in hand I began looking for the right telescope,.
as I said i did a lot of research and comparing before I bought. I came across TelescopePlus and here was this OTA I checked to see what came with it and I was impressed , everything except the tripod was there and ready to go PLUS it was an 8" BONUS ! I looked every where for the dimensions of the telescope but could not find them,I figured it would be a decent size you know comparable to some others around that price.range so I ordered it., I didn't have to wait long I think it was at my house in 5 days with free shipping.
Ok now its time to see what I bought so I opened the box (which by the way was one heavy duty box and well packed) On top was the eyepieces box the finder scope box and some other packing materials in other words I still couldn't see what I bought !! I took the top layer off and stood there stunned
THIS THING IS HUGE I thought they had made a mistake so I looked to make sure that it was the right one and it was. I just couldn't believe the size of the telescope . I picked it up and mounted it to my tripod quick and easy and I was ready to try it out.
It was a nice clear night and the images I was seeing where crystal clear MEADE had made a high quality piece of equipment !!
I've since bought a couple of more eyepieces and am really enjoying my new hobby using the LX70 R8. I got lucky and won't have to purchase a bigger telescope later this one is perfect!.
For what I have invested In this Telescope I could have bought up to a 6" reflector with the tripod and a couple of eye pieces, but It wouldn't have been a Meade and more than likely a 5" reflector. of similar quality as the LX70.
