Good value

The Celestron Astromaster 130EQ has a sturdy tripod and the CG-3 EQ mount is well made for a scope in this price range. The tube is a seamed sheet metal assembly. The focuser on the tube is smooth and has a fairly wide range. I mostly purchased this telescope mostly for the EQ mount and tripod. I am going to use it along with an Altazimuth scope mount from a Celestron 76LCM for astrophotography. I am making a base for the 76LCM’s scope mount that will attach to the EQ’s dovetail fixture and a camera mount that will attach to the 76LCM's dovetail fixture. The CG-3 EQ mount is fairly well made and will make getting the 76LCM goto mount into Polar Alignment much easier than if I made my own wedge for the 76LCM. I had considered purchasing a wedge, but I could purchase this scope for less and have a 130mm tube assembly for teaching others how to use a scope with an EQ mount. Over all, for the money this scope is a good value for the money.

It did exactly as advertised, and it allowed me some great views of the eclipse this August. Away from the eclipse, this scope is powerful enough to allow me to view sun spots on the sun. It comes with a tripod, though not great, gets the trick done, and a very convenient carrying bag. Great for the price and I couldn't be happier.
