I've used cheap and mid-range
I've used cheap and mid-range keyboards of various brands for years and the Vulcan Pro (optical linear switch) is my first high-end board. I was pleasantly surprised how much better it is compared to my other keyboards. Its used in combination of work and gaming so it definitely is put through the grinder at times.
Typing actually feels good. The linear keys are smooth with some spring-like resistance. I was worried the clickety-clackety might be too loud after reading reviews of different gaming keyboards, but the Vulcan Pro (linear switch) sounds just right. Not enough to hear it with headphones on and shouldn't drive people insane if they're in the same room either; but it's definitely not silent.
All keys functioned well including the multimedia keys. It's plug-n-play out of the box at least for my Win10 PC. However, software must be installed to change the lighting and macros. Default lighting is a rainbow shift pattern, iirc.
The ROCCAT Swarm software seems decent and fairly user friendly. I haven't experienced any issues with it as of using it for roughly one week.
Key illumination is bright and with the Swarm software groups of keys can have custom lighting. There is a color palette and several lighting effects to choose from. I do wish there were more color/lighting options; and I did not see a way to customize individual keys unless I missed something.
Regardless, I'm pleased with the lighting and effects options.
Keyboard is hefty and very thin with somewhat tall keys. It took a little while to get used to the keyboard, but it's well designed (button spacing). For comparison, my hands are large with slender, long fingers.
I'm very impressed with this piece of hardware. Wish I had bought this sooner!
