Just, wow.
I’ve had a few eink note taking devices in recent years so my bar has been set pretty low. But once i turned on my new reMarkable the bar instantly shattered. From the first marker stroke I could tell that the writing experience, the UI, the file management capabilities, and that screen that feels more like paper than anything else I’ve ever written on meant the reMarkable was in a class of eink notebooks of its own.
Have had it for several weeks now and the honeymoon hasn’t diminished one bit. I look forward to using the reMarkable every day and it quickly and seamlessly fit into my daily productivity routines. It’s a device of many hats, but I primarily use it for work meeting notes, to do lists, brainstorm sessions, calendars and scheduling and journaling. It excels at all of it.
If I had to be a nit picky critic I could probably find some areas to improve the device. The UI is the best of any eink tablet I’ve seen — but could still be more intuitive and fast. Pressing multiple buttons to accomplish something that could easily be done with a song tap of the hamburger menu that already can be found on notes and notebooks sticks out. More functionality with the iOS and desktop apps to make them less like passive observers and more robust in their own right would be great. More customization options in everything from the sleep screen to the layout style of My Files would be appreciated.
But I genuinely had to spend a bit of time thinking to come up with those critiques, and they don’t distract from my overwhelmingly positive experience using this device every day. The reMarkable simply fades away and let’s you get your work done — the mark of a brilliantly designed device!
