I needed to retire an STM bag that had served me well for 10 years. It travelled through 100’s of flights and trips, but was showing its age.
I bought this because it seemed like it had the right features, including a bottle holder on the sides. (Good for bringing your own water on planes)
The build quality is good, good zippers, good stitching and material.
However, the features I had on my last bag are missing. Instead of a padded slot that closes for my laptop, it’s an open top for the computer to slide into. The padding is only along the back. In addition, to get the computer in and out of the open topped slot, you have push back the lip of the top opening. That lip has the handle sewn into it, so its stiff and does not bend out of the way easily, so not very functional for getting the computer in and out of the bag often..
The shoulder straps do not have an integrated top like the old bag, but are individual, so when carrying with one shoulder, the weight is not distributed across the top and the bag sags to the side.
Lastly, my previous bag had two small rings sewn into the top on each side of the shoulder straps. This was where I placed my luggage tags with my name on them. (Very important when you travel) The new bag no longer has that feature, so my luggage tags had to go onto the handle. Now they smack me in the back of the neck when I am hustling through the airport.
A small, inexpensive part of the bag that is critical for anyone who travels. ..
While the bag is OK, it does not meet my needs. I will use it until I can find a replacement that is better suited to a busy traveler, and then it will be donated.
Shame, my previous bag was brilliant. This one is not.
