We had a gen 1
We had a gen 1 bin for a year and then upgraded to a gen 2 since it just made more sense financially. We were renting the gen 1 for $400 /year (with shipments) but it only cost $600 to upgrade and own the gen 2. That leads into my first issue with this product: the price. This is a great system and idea but it has a large barrier to entry for it to really make a difference in the world.
My second issue is related to the gen 2 specifically, and that is the manual lid pedal. The gen 1 bin had essentially a pedal button to open the automated lid. If you double tap it, the lid would stay open, which is very useful. The gen 2 removed the button and it’s now a mechanical lever, which means you have to hold the pedal to keep the lid open. This was obviously a way to reduce costs but also removes a premium feature from an expensive product. Maybe the mechanical lever is more durable I’m not sure.
