The website didn't work great, and the order fulfillment process was aggravating.
My one experience ordering from the Filmtools website was pretty bad. I wanted to order some items, however, the shipping estimate was as much as the items I wanted to buy. It seemed excessive, but I saw that had an option to reach out for an exact shipping quote, so I did. I was glad when the shipping quote came back at 1/4 or the original estimate, which felt much more reasonable.
Because I was not using the websites auto shipping estimate, I had to pay for the items only (excluding shipping), and then pay for the shipping afterward. That's done by them sending a Paypal payment request (probably because I made my purchase with Paypal). I was hoping to have the items ship out the same day, and the website said that all orders put in before a certain time would ship the same day, so I thought I was in the safe zone. I waited a little while for them to send the Paypal invoice, but it wasn't coming through, so I called and made the payment over the phone with a credit card. I was a little bummed to find out that at that point they couldn't ship out the same day, but I was assured that they would ship the next business day.
Later on the day of the purchase, I did end up receiving the Paypal invoice for the shipping charges after I already put the payment through over the phone. Because of this, I thought there could be some confusion at the Filmtools office about whether or not the shipping had been paid for, so I gave them a call the next business day. The representative said that my order would have been held up because of the Paypal request not being paid, but they cleared that up and told me that my order would be shipping out the same day.
A couple more business days have passed, and I hadn't received the items when they were expected. At that point, I realized that they never sent me a tracking number, so I decided to give Filmtools a call again to see where my order was. The representative informed me that it had not yet shipped, but that it would be going out that same day. Up until this point, I was pretty understanding about what I felt were mishaps in the ordering process. Now I was kind of mad... But at least I would finally be getting my order soon.
At this point, all of my trust in Filmtools had completely eroded, so when I hadn't received a tracking number, I called them the very next morning to confirm it had been shipped. The representative told me that my order had already been shipped, but that they would have to retrieve my tracking number and send it to me.
I thought to myself, "Wow, they finally shipped it when they said they would." Wrong. It turns out it wasn't shipped the prior day. Later that afternoon I finally received the tracking number, and it hadn't even made it into Fedex's possession at that point, but I have confirmed it is now on the way to me.
Right from the getgo, I was having trouble with the website. It was moving at a snail's pace. Maybe it was experiencing higher than normal traffic. I don't really know, but I pressed through that. Once I put the order in, It was just exhausting. If I knew when it would be shipping as I put in the order, I could have made it work. I might not have been thrilled, but I would have been content and could have planned accordingly. After going through a roller coaster of overpromising and under-delivering, I don't really want to deal with Filmtools anymore.
