Astro C40
The Astro C40 is easily the best controller that I have ever used, but is clearly plagued with terrible stick modules. I have yet to use two sticks for longer than 3-4 months of (what I would consider) moderate and careful use (using to play roughly 10-15 hours a week) before one begins experiencing terrible drift. Even when attempting to correct the issues via calibration, it becomes clear that it is a stick drift issue each time. At this point, I have gone through at least 4 modules (I actually think I just got my 5th recently, but cannot find all of my receipts).
This is truly frustrating because I am VERY careful with my tech and I have never had any issues with anything else from Astro before. For example, I have a pair of the original A40 TR edition and they are spotless and work flawlessly after almost 5 years of regular use. I also still have my original PS4 controller that I got with my PS4 on launch day and it is clean and does not have any stick drift issues. As such, it is clear that the sticks are at fault. These drift concerns are only made worse by the slow warrantee response. I tried to use my warrantee to get a new stick after my first stick started demonstrating significant drift after 4 months of owning the controller. When I called, I was told that it would take 4 weeks or more for Astro to receive my stick, have it checked, and to receive a fitting replacement (for a friend of mine, it took closer to 6 weeks when he sent in his with the same complaints); however, as the agent made clear for me, I could simply order a new stick for $20 (with roughly $5 shipping) instead. If I were to buy a new stick rather than send in my existing stick under warrantee, I could receive the new stick in less than 5 business days. In other words, I either needed to deal with the fact that I did not have my C40 to use for 4-5 weeks with no guarantee I would get a new and functional module, or I could spend more money and wait for it in the mail. This is a bit problematic.
To be honest, if the modules were available in a physical store, I actually would not mind going and picking up replacements because I enjoy the controller that much; however, it bothers me to be forced into going onto the website and paying extra for shipping due to a quality control or design problem. I hope that this design flaw is something that is corrected in a potential PS5 C40 replacement, otherwise I think it would be difficult to consider buying an upgraded model.
