It all started when my parents were in sitting in the airport and something caught my mom’s eye. She turned to my dad, pointing out someone, and said “wow, now those are some ‘hot daddy shoes’”.
Naturally, my dad proceeded to conduct some research and discovered they were Riomar shoes. Shortly thereafter, he purchased his first pair… and then a second… and then some different bearings.
Now, I am a few years out of college and I wear my trusty white sneakers just about everyday. After multiple times of hearing my mom refer to these sneakers with a grimace as “frat party shoes” (she’s not entirely inaccurate), I figured it was time to search for a more ‘grown up’ yet-still-comfortable alternative of a go-to shoe that I could wear into the office, when traveling, on date nights, or while running errands.
I consulted my dad (who is obviously pretty stylish) about some different clog and loafer options I was considering. He insisted I opt for a pair of Riomars, citing their comfort, style, and odor resistance. Since I was also in the middle of planning a vacation, I asked my dad “Would they work for Paris? Good for lots of walking / travel?” His response was “Oh oui, ma chère. Paris must be exposed to Riomar. ”
At this point, I was still a little hesitant since I myself am not a *hot dad*…. but he persisted, stating “you can wear them without socks … and they don’t get stinky”. And because no advice from my dad is complete without a Seinfeld reference, this was accompanied by a gif of Frank Costanza complaining about his own foot odor problem, emphasizing how with Riomars I’d certainly be free of my own such concerns.
In a strong pivot from foot odor, he sent this last message which finally wore me down: “they are the best pair of shoes I ever remember buying. I might even wear the black ones to your wedding. If I can find the right suit. ”
Anyway, he was right. I got myself a pair and after a couple wears to break them in (bandaids on the heels did the trick!), they’re fantastic. From date nights with my fiancé, to going into the office, or grabbing coffee with friends these shoes are now giving my white sneakers some serious competition.
I’m sitting in the airport now writing this review as I wait to board my flight to Paris, and while I’m currently wearing my white sneakers, the only other pair of shoes I packed, without hesitation, are the Riomars.
